I want to share some reflections on Psalm 23 with you today. The Lord has brought Psalm 23 to my mind many, many times in the last couple of years. Every single time I read it, it gets sweeter. It is a soothing balm to a weary soul.
As we navigate this time, with COVID 19 still shaking up everything we know as normal, I am reminded that our wonderful God is always the same. See Hebrews 13:8.
Psalm 23 (NIV)
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Thank You, Lord, that You watch over me and You take care of me, both day and night. You satisfy me, You fill me, You complete me. You meet all my needs.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters…
Thank You, Lord, that You put me where I can rest – without hunger or fear – in safety. You bring me reminders of Your peace – even in the beautiful sound of quiet waters. You are my peace.
He restores my soul.
Thank You, Lord, that you refresh in my deepest parts. You make me new.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Thank You, Lord, that You alone can make it possible for me to live a righteous life, first – positionally, because You have made me Yours, I belong to You; and then – because You are making me more like You, bit by bit, day by day – FOR YOUR GLORY.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…
Death surrounds me. This breaks my heart and would consume me but…
I will fear no evil, for You are with me…
You are with me and I do not have to be afraid or heartbroken. I am engulfed in Your peace.
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You guide me and discipline me to keep me safely on Your path. On Your path, I have comfort, and peace, and safety.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
You give me good things – things that I need to live and things that simply make life pleasant. You lavish Your love on me by Your Holy Spirit. I have so many blessings that they overflow – more than I can possibly contain.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…
Because I belong to You, I get to walk through life with You – Your goodness and Your love (mercy) will be with me because You are with me.
…and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
And, even after this life on earth is over, I will be able to live in with You, in Your house, in Your presence for all eternity – of which there is no end.
Hallelujah!!! Thank You, Lord!!!
