Known and Loved

How Well Does God Know Me?

Is that something you have wondered about? It is easy to feel like one of the masses in this busy life, isn’t it? Remember the song from the ’80s – “I Feel Like a Number.” How well does God know us? Do we just blend in with the whole? Does He look on us and see a mass of people all at once? Or does He see each of us individually?

Last time, I simply quoted Psalm 139:1-12 and God’s Word definitely speaks for itself. Today, I want to begin thinking through Verses 1-4 and I invite you to come along with me!

Psalm 139:1-6

1O LORD, You have searched me and known me!

2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You discern my thoughts from afar.

3You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

4Before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.”

So, after reading this through, we can definitely say that God knows us as individual people, can’t we? He knows each one of us personally.

Let’s talk through Verse 1:

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me!”

He truly knows us better than we know ourselves.

Do you ever ask yourself, “Now, why did I do that?” I do… too often!

God knew why I was going to do it before I did it! And I have to think about what my motive was behind it but He just knows because He knows me completely.

He knows each one of us at our very core.

To Verse 2:

“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You discern my thoughts from afar.”

Nothing gets by God and we can be truly thankful for that. At times, we may kind of wish we could hide something from Him but in reality, there is great comfort in the fact that we cannot. If we could hide something from Him, He would not be who He is. He would not be the One True Omniscient (all-knowing) God.

Now Verse 3:

“You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”

He knows how we do things and why we do things.

And Verse 4:

“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.”

So, He even knows what we are going to say before we say it. Of course, He does, right? Because He knows us through and through. He knows how we think, what we think, and why we think it. He even knows what we are going to think before we think it.

So Well

There is so much comfort in knowing that He knows us so well. Even though He knew me completely, He loved me and He saved me. Even though He knew how sinful I would still be after walking with Him for 30+ years(!!!), He still saved me. I am overwhelmed!

Thank You, Lord! You are so good to us!

Things to Ponder:

  • Do I live my life like God sees and knows me through and through?
  • Do I attempt to hide things from Him or attempt to forget that He sees?
  • Stripped bare with nothing to hide behind, I am dearly and perfectly loved by the One True Omniscient God of the Universe.
