God’s Great Love

Changed

We come to the end of this beautiful passage of Scripture tomorrow. When we really get a grasp on God’s great love for us, it will change us. How has this study changed you?

Today we will focus on verse 20 then tomorrow, verse 21. I hope this passage has gotten into your heart and soul. These two verses are a fitting response to God’s great love for us! It ignites praise and worship in our hearts as we contemplate it, just as it obviously has in Paul’s heart in writing these verses.

Ephesians 3:20-21

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

How’s that for an ending? It occurs to me now that this or something similar should be the ending of every prayer I pray. As we go to God in prayer, we are acknowledging that He is who He is, in trusting Him with our needs and requests. So as we trust Him and let things go, we can rejoice in the fact that He is God and He can definitely take care of things. Here, Paul has prayed for believers and is now acknowledging God and praising Him for who He is and declaring what He deserves.

A Beautiful Package

Paul ties all of chapter 3 up into a beautiful elegantly wrapped package of life-changing power! Verses 20 and 21 point to the One who has all the glorious riches, the awesome power, the massive love that surpasses knowledge, and the fullness that cannot be contained, overflowing by design. Obviously, it speaks of God Himself.

Only by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God could so few words (verses 14-19) say so much! What an awesome God we serve! How can anyone not love Him? Once you get to know Him you just cannot help it, right?

Let’s go to Verse 20:

“Now to Him…”

Who? Our awesome beautiful God, of course!

“…who is able to do more than all we ask or imagine…”

Imagine

It is so easy to assume that God is limited to our thinking, but is it not exciting that He wants to give us what we cannot even imagine. He has so much more for us than we can even consider or hope for.

Ask

How much can you ask for? My list is pretty long. If you have kids, you probably have a living example of the “Ask List” that never ends. Of course, this particular “Ask List” is confined to all the goodness and glory of heaven, confined to the good and perfect will of Mighty God.

More than All

How much can you imagine? Just consider it.

Now think about those words before “ask or imagine” – “more than all”. More than all that I can ask or imagine? Really?

The Bible says that His thoughts and ways are so much higher than ours that we cannot understand them. (Isaiah 55:8-9) I guess that “more than all” should not surprise me as I try to understand it. How about you?

God’s Great Love

Once again, He is beyond us – beyond our understanding. But, He is in us, surrounding us and consuming us with His beautiful amazing love. He shields us with His mighty hand (Exodus 33:22) so that we can see the glow of His phenomenal beauty, majesty, riches, holiness, power, love and so on, and so on… Wow! How do we even contain our excitement when we think of Him?!?

Back to Verse 20:

“…according to His power that is at work within us…”

His Power

Everything He is able to do is gauged by His level of power. His power cannot be measured by us. It is far past the limits of any kind of human measuring device! We cannot fathom it in any way other than imagination and that too is inadequate!

This power is at work within us as we seek Him and walk with Him. In all our imperfections, He draws us changes us and makes us what He wants us to be.

His Amazing Love

I am so thankful that He does not save us and then leave us alone. I am so thankful that in this brief life He wants us to know Him and have a close intimate relationship with Him. What an amazingly loving God we have!

Let’s Pray:

Lord, I am truly amazed at You, Your Love, and Your goodness. Thank You so much for Your Word! Thank You for inspiring Paul many, many years ago with this wonderful prayer for believers. Help us, Lord, to seek You passionately. Make us what You want us to be and help us to be completely Yours. Help us to love You with our whole hearts. Please be glorified in us as we live out our lives for You alone. In Jesus Mighty name. I pray. Amen.
