A Beautiful Life

A Beautiful Life

What would you think of if I said you could have a beautiful life?

Let’s talk about it!

All of Me?

What kind of tasks do you throw your whole self into? Your career? Raising your children? Making your spouse or future spouse happy? Being healthy? Being independent?

That is a really big question, huh? It is a challenging question to answer.

Today’s Passage:

Today is our second day in this passage. Tomorrow we will finish up with Verse 31.

Mark 12:29-31 NIV (focusing on Verse 30)

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

A Foreign Concept

I remember being in church as a young adult when the leader of the music told us to tell the Lord, out loud, how much we loved Him. At that point, I had only been to this church a few times and telling God that I loved Him had never occurred to me. I had not thought about whether I loved God or not… not really. I knew He loved me. One thing I did know for sure was that I did not want to lie to Him! So for that particular instance, I remained quiet.

However, it did have a profound impact on me. It really made me think. I knew that I needed to love Him. I just knew it in my heart.

Love… God?

Love… God? How does one love God?? How do you love something or someone that you cannot even begin to understand? God has made a way for us to have a deep, though not complete, understanding of Him – through His Word.

As my knowledge of Him and my relationship with Him grew, I grew to love Him. He helped me to love Him. He is still bringing me along and helping me love Him more and more every single day.

To Verse 30:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Let’s break it apart a little:

“Love the Lord your God…”

The only people who will truly love Him are the ones who call Him their Lord and their God. If you are a believer, if you have put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior then He is your Lord and your God and He has called you to love Him.

“…with all your heart…”

The Amplified Bible says it this way:

“…out of and with your whole heart…”

I think of this as the deepest part of who you are.

“…and with all your soul…”

The Amplified Bible says:

“and out of and with all your soul (your life)…”

I think of the quote, “…absent from the body is present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8b KJV) When the soul leaves the body there is no life left in the body. That precious soul has met God face to face at that point.

Then,

“…and with all your mind…”

The Amplified Bible says:

“…and out of and with all your mind – [that is] with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding…”

So I think of this as your decision-making ability and character.

And,

“…and with all your strength.”

The Amplified Bible says:

“…and out of and with all your strength.”

Yep, all of me!

So that is definitely all of me, and all of you, too! And in His goodness and mercy when we love Him with our whole selves, He fills us with so much love for other people! Instead of wearing us out He energizes us to love others. Don’t you love how He works exponentially instead of in simple addition!

A Beautiful Life

If this is really a new concept to you, you are definitely not alone. Just ask Him to help you love Him more and more. A beautiful life comes out of loving Him deeply and with all of you. I am not suggesting that it will be a trouble-free or stress-free, but it will be a life that glorifies Him. A life that is filled with His life and His love.

Let’s Pray:

Thank You so much, Lord, for bringing us to You and calling us to love You! Thank You, also, for helping us to love You. Help us to give ourselves more to You every day. Please help us to see that what You want from us will make our relationship with You so much fuller. Make us completely Yours in every area of our lives. Help us not to hold any part of us back from You. Be glorified in us! In the beautiful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
